In 2017, the provincial government established the electronics waste management program under the Clean Environment Act. REGULATION 2015-247 amends the Designated Materials Regulation and sets out the requirements for the program.
As the agency responsible for designated materials in New Brunswick, Recycle NB oversees the electronics program. The Board of Recycle NB approved a management plan for electronic waste. The plan calls for a province-wide electronics recycling program.
The program is an extended producer responsibility (EPR) program, which means the electronics industry will manage the program. Industry brand owners chose EPRA (Electronic Products Recycling Association) to operate the program in New Brunswick. The program will divert thousands of tonnes of electronic devices and equipment from the province’s landfills.
