It's contest time again

Celebrate your favourite outdoor space during Environment Week

Most of us have a favourite outdoor space.

Maybe it’s the trail system where you walk your pup; a park where your children play; a beach where you can swim or stroll; a look-off where you can enjoy the beauty of your surroundings. If you have such a place, we would love to see it, and what better time to share it than Environment Week in Canada?

Environment Week takes place from June 2-8. It coincides with World Environment Day and Clean Air Day in Canada on June 5, followed by World Oceans Day on June 8. The theme of World Environment Day this year is Generation Restoration. This is to promote actions to revive or protect our ecosystems – our wetlands, fields, forests and shores – so that they are healthy and thriving. For more information about these important initiatives, and for ideas on what you can do to make a difference, visit https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/canadian-environment-week.html.

Here are just a few ideas for how you can be part of Generation Restoration. You can organize a community clean-up, or plant trees or wildflowers (make sure they are native species) in your favourite outdoor space. You can also support your local watershed restoration organization. These folks are doing amazing things! They spearhead numerous restoration projects, monitor fish populations, water quality and so much more. Check https://nben.ca/en/ for more information and to find an organization in your area.

In honour of Environment Week in Canada, we are inviting you to celebrate our beautiful province by sharing a photo of your favourite outdoor space. Share it on our Facebook page or comment about it on our Instagram post and you will be entered to win some cool Recycle NB swag. We will draw the winning name on June 28.

Happy June everyone!
