October is Circular Economy Month

Waste Reduction Week takes place from October 21-27

NEW BRUNSWICK, October 1, 2024 – Recycle NB is once again encouraging New Brunswickers to participate in Circular Economy Month by organizing events or initiatives that promote sustainability and support waste reduction efforts.

Circular Economy Month is a nationwide initiative organized by the Circular Innovation Council to educate and engage Canadians about the concept of a circular economy, which encourages industry to design products using materials that can be reused instead of discarded. This will better help to preserve our natural resources and protect our planet for generations to come.

Circular Economy Month is structured into weekly themes designed to educate and encourage sustainable action across Canada.

Week 1 introduces Circular Economy Month, Week 2 focuses on the environmental benefits of a circular economy, Week 3 talks about the social and economic benefits, Week 4 (October 21-27) is Waste Reduction Week, and Week 5 celebrates the events and actions that were taken throughout the month.

New Brunswickers can support Circular Economy Month by:

  • Organizing a community-wide recycling collection event where residents can bring their recyclables.
  • Initiating a waste reduction program at a school or business.
  • Take a pledge to reduce food waste at home, school or work.
  • Host a clothing swap in your community.
