The Electronics Recycling Program approved by Recycle NB ensures the responsible recycling of electronic products covered by the Designated Materials Regulation. Brand owners chose EPRA (Electronic Products Recycling Association) to operate the recycling program in New Brunswick on their behalf.

EPRA sets the Environmental Handling Fee for each new electronic product. The fee goes to EPRA to cover the costs of the electronics recycling program in New Brunswick. Industry may absorb the fee or pass it on to the consumer by including it in the advertised price of the product.
A stewardship plan shall apply to the manufacture, storage, collection, transportation, processing or other handling of electronic products that are sold, offered for sale or distributed within the Province. For more details, please see the approved stewardship plan, which expires on December 31, 2025.

About the Program

In 2017, the provincial government established the electronics stewardship program under the Clean Environment Act. Designated Materials Regulation 2008~54 sets out the requirements for the program.

As the agency responsible for designated materials in New Brunswick, Recycle NB oversees the electronics program. The Board of Recycle NB approved a stewardship plan for electronic waste. The plan calls for a province-wide electronics recycling program.

The program is an extended producer responsibility (EPR) program, which means the electronics industry manages the program. Industry brand owners chose the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) to operate the program in New Brunswick. The program diverts thousands of tonnes of electronic devices and equipment from the province’s landfills.
